The Graston Technique, Now available at Core!

We at Core Chiropractic & Rehabilitation are excited to announce that we have added another technique to our office to better treat our patients and to allow the most effective and fastest recovery possible from any type of injury. This technique is called the Graston Technique, and it is based on a number of different soft tissue and massage techniques. Since 1994, when the Graston Technique was first used in a Clinical setting, it is now used by more than 9,000 clinicians worldwide, including trainers and doctors for NHL, NFL and major league baseball teams across the country.
After any trauma, whether it be from an athletic injury, a car accident, a slip on the ice, or any other “oops” moment, the soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, tendons, etc) are injured. This explains why a bruise will commonly show up the following day. In many cases however, even after the bruise has disappeared, the underlying soft tissues are still healing. Many times, this healing process causes underlying scar tissue or “adhesions”, not visually seen by the eye. Over time these adhesions can build up; change the way the affected tissues act, and ultimately results in decreased motion and pain. Not only does this technique aid athletes in reaching optimum performance or to recover from acute injuries, but the Graston Technique can also help resolve chronic conditions thought to be permanent, decrease overall treatment time, allow for a faster recovery and reduce the need for anti-inflammatory medications (from www.grastontechnique.com).
One of the most effective treatments of soft tissue injuries, including the reduction or elimination of the scar tissue and adhesions, is with the use of the Graston Technique. This technique, only performed by certified practitioners, is a form of manual therapy that uses a number of patented stainless-steel instruments. These instruments are used to scan the affectedinjured or painful areas, locate the scar tissue, and then “loosen” it up using the tools. Once the adhesions have been reduced, generally the pain goes away and the affected area can begin to function as it did prior to the injury.
I personally have seen this technique used with various and diverse types of patients, including those with post-lumbar surgery pain, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis, IT Band Syndrome, hamstring tears, trigger finger, headaches, back pain, post- rotator cuff surgery/injury, knee pain, any sprain/strain, and tendonitis. Ultimately, this technique can help ANY joint, muscle or ligament injury!
